I also use and recommend AVG Anti Virus and Spybot Search and Destroy. They’re really good.

"there is a pest imbedded in your computer." Sounds like you have one of those fake antispyware or antivirus that just wants to trick you into buying their program that doesn’t work anyway. Meanwhile it’s downloading some serious malware that can steal your sensitive information. So yes you need to get rid of it.

Be very very careful with screen savers as they may have virus your anti virus might have a tough time to fight.

Wall Papers on the other hand can be easily got by typing your favorite keyword in http://www.image.google.com. Try and filter by selecting a large file

Frostwire as a program is clean, no spyware or other stuff. But when downloading any file you are risking a virus or other (worm, trojan, etc). Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and you won’t have a problem. I use Frostwire and have Eset at work and Norton at home and both detect any corrupt or infected files and quaratine them while downloading or when downloading is done. If you are still worried you can right click on the file when done downloading and choose to scan it with your anti-virus program.

Nothing can download without your selecting it in Frostwire (unless there are custom scripts you configure, beyond my skill).

There is no one BEST program for everyone! Each person’s individual computer usage is completely different. Some folks download illegal programs and music, which exposes them to more infections than any other behavior. Some folks only read their email and do some light surfing.

Because usage is different, the appropriate software is different for everyone.

Here is a list of free programs that do their job well, for various security tasks. Most of the time, several programs are necessary to maintain a full range of security.

ANTI-VIRUS:
-AVG by Grisoft
-Avira
-Avast
Any *one* of these would probably work well for you! Read the reviews to be sure.

However, none of the AV products will protect you from the full range of infections that are out there. You will also need these other programs:

ANTI-SPYWARE:
Since NONE of the anti-spyware/anti-adware programs are 100 percent accurate in finding and removing spyware, you need *at least* two programs which you will run one after the other, not at the same time.

You are infected with spyware if:

* You see too much pop-up advertisements.
* Your browser has toolbars that you haven’t installed.
* Your homepage has changed (and you can’t change it back).
* Other settings have changed without your permission.
* Your computer is slow.

To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you can use an antispyware or even more.
